We the Buddhist(MIPC especially) were honoured to have Uncle Vijaya as our speaker on the 22nd Oct. He was so kind to spend his weekend with us n the next day is Kathina too in Brickfields Temple. He flew in with Air Asia. The first flight in the morning. So he really woke up very early that day.
He was received by Bro Peter n he checked him in, in Dynasty.
Uncle Vijaya gave his first talk in MIPC centre entitled Paramis (the 6/10 paramittas). the similarities between mahayana n theravada buddhism. An enlightening talk to most of us who didn't know what are paramis n the jataka stories involved. Very funny too the way Uncle Vijaya tell the jokes so no one fell asleep cos they are meditating if they closed their eyes
In the evening, it should be a public talk entitled what is buddhism?at Miri Buddhist Society Even though we advertise in the newspaper, but there were no response. only the mipc members turned up. so kesian
If it is in Penisular, i think the hall will be filled up. but not here so, uncle decided to change the topic cos most of us had basic knowledge of buddhism. FYI, there was quite a crowd for Chief Reverend's talk last year.
So, uncle tell us about death n funeral rites instead. the miri people really don't know about the ten meritorious deeds one of them as you know is listening to the dhamma.
Maybe the talk is english too.
but anyway, the mipc members really enjoyed the talks. its an eye opener for us esp. about death the buddhist way!
Then ,ahem i was the official tour guide for uncle on the second day. didn't manage to cover the whole of miri. only manage to go grand old lady, curtin uni, croc farm(entrance only), airport, my school , lutong shell, taoist temple, n ...
so, if any of bgf, incovar, bisds, sentul friends coming down, i'll be ur tour guide if i'm free n no school Before Uncle Vijaya went home, Bro Peter treated us to a sumptuos lunch at yuan ho rest. thank n sadhu bro peter. The night before, Uncle n MIPC went for a supper Treated by Sis Swee Bee n Bro Bailey. Drinks on Bro Peter again! Me, just the local tour agent for MIPC
Uncle flew home in MAS.
Uncle Vijaya might be coming to Miri again with Bro Charlie Chia in Mac 2006. We look forward for their visit. Uncle, I promise to bring you to the other side of Miri on your next trip! Uncle, thank you n Maha Sadhu for the WONDERFUL TALK! We hope to invite more Dhamma speakers to Miri in the future!
Hope u enjoyed my diary cum craps

Well, just to share my experience n photos of my kursus induksi with u. For the uninitiated, all goverment employees waiting to be confirmed in the servive have to go through this course. For teachers, it is a 18 days course. As for me n my 2 other colleagues, lau n lemon, we didn't get miri. we got it in sibu. So, the three blur friends take on a 7.5 hrs bus ride from miri to sibu. we didn't know we can fly there cause it stated in the letter ambil pengangkutan yang termurah. hence our journey with MDC bus to Sibu. On arrival we were picked up by lau's aunty. n begin our 18 days stay in Premier hotel. Can u tell me, besides kursus induksi, how many of us got to stay in hotels for 18 days? initially its like a holiday from the tiring work in school. but after a week, lau n i got tired of the hotel food. we even skip lunch just to catch some nice 1 hr nap during lunch. we even skip dinner BUT we do eat our dinner but outside For ur info, near to Premier hotel is a pasar malam which open everi nite. thus it explain my waitline n weight after my course in Sibu. They have lots of things there n Lemon's fav was telinga babi. lau n i bought lekor n apam balik almos evey nite. during weekends, kind charles, my colleague drive us all the way down to sarikei n bintangor(well, it is during the 1 week hol). in bintangor, we met up with our --pk 1, cikgu richard who is the current pengetua of SMK Tung Hua Bintangor. He threat us to nice dinner in a post restaurant(even for kl standard is equivalent to greenview rest). well, the only torturing part was to endure boring lectures n getting up at 530am for 1hr senaman pagi everyday except sunday. never in my life woke up that early for senaman, not even during kursus bina negara in kelantan! at the ens of 3 weeks, we have to sit for exams. but during the whole course, we have some individual n group assignments to do. it also contribute towards our exam marks. the exam consists of objectives question n 4 essays. the end result, I PASS! Now waiting to sah dalam jawatan. hopefully by this year. so, mite b goin back to tic in penisular preferably kl in 2-3 years time. then, i can serve bisds n the buddhist community again in penisular! FYI, my group in induksi got the 1st price for group presentation for Kumpulan B! The best food in Sibu, (non-halal of course!) Kampua Mee, Mint Liang Teh n Sibu sort of TomYam Mee n one stall selling Seafood Hotplate mee. Thanks lau n charles for introducing me the marvellous food n thanks cikgu richard for the 1 wonderful dinner in Sheraton Restaurant! FYI info, 1 bowl of Kampua cost RM1.70! Well, not only food. my x-uni mate came down from dalat by a small xpress boat. he took me to see the 7-storey pagoda i'd visited last year b4 my induksi. n charles took us to his house n bukit aup.v
To go to Sarikei n Bintangor from Sibu n vise versa you had to cross a the Rajang River. for the time being no bridge so u had to cross by a ferry as u will c in my photos Durin or Lanang from Sibu side. I understand that during Super Peak(i myself experience it b4), u had to wait to cross the river for about3-5 hrs esp. during sch hols, cny n gawai

I went to Mulu National Park with a big group of friends! Besides Sian Soo, Kheng, Sek n Luan, there were Poh Cheong, Woei Ping n 1 friend + 2 students, Mei Hwa, Sih Hau n of course me! That made 12 of us altogether
Our tour guide was Andy! A very friendly n helpful tour guide. Lots of interesting stories to tell too!
We flew from Miri Airport with Fokker-50. The other option is the Twin Otter!
About 30-45 mins ride.
On arrival, we were greeted by Andy n waited for our luggage. Manual, no revolving belt like in KLIA n Miri Airport!
At the hotel, Royal Rihga Mulu Resort, we were greeted by beautiful girls clad in traditional Sarawak Costumes!
For the eyes, lets view on...

My Trengganu's friend in Miri!
|
|
My friends from Trengganu came to Miri during the March school holidays for almost a week. 11/03/05 is the first day. let's follow their journey to a few places; Miri, Mulu n Niah Caves!
As usual, I'm the official tour guide here in Miri for my friends. Is a good idea i go n get a tour guide licence so that with the tag, i can enter any places in the world at a discounted rate n get paid for a part time job. Not bad ah Since I don't go back KL that often now! I'm not falling in love to Miri, but the life is quieter n peaceful!n cost saving too with less food eateris n shopping complexes
My friends are Sian Soo, Sek, Luan n Kheng

My 2004 F5 students as NS Trainees in Kem Semenyih, Selangor. Got a chance to visit them in Semenyih camp n also in KLCC.They were lucky cause the camp 'cikgu' brings the Sarawakians n Sabahans to KLCC n also Putrajaya. But these trainees had to spend their Christmas here with their new friends cause if they go back, they have to bear the cost of the ticket home. I dont have a chance to see them wearing the Baju Celoreng.
